Travelling here
Here’s a brief description of the easiest way to travel to Hov
Hov Gård is beautifully situated at Hov on Gimsøy on the outer side of Lofoten by a white sandy beach, the open sea and the midnight sun or northern lights. We have about 48 Icelandic horses and 2 Shetland ponies. Here you can ride on mountains, beaches and roads that the predecessor of our “Viking horses” rode on over 1000 years ago. The Icelandic horse has its origins in Norway and the Viking Age, perhaps even from Hov.
Hov is one of the oldest places in Lofoten with ancient remains dating back a long time. The site has boat docks, a god’s court and graves from the Viking Age. It is believed that the Viking Tore Hjort had his chieftain’s seat here over 1,000 years ago. He is mentioned in the Viking saga and was killed by King Olav Tryggvasson during the Christianisation of Norway. Tore Hjort and other stories are told to you when you take part in our guided horseback riding tours.

We’re always looking for positive people and welcome open applications
First and foremost, we offer a wide range of horse riding holidays. We have a campsite with pitches both with and without electricity, with Hovstranda as our nearest neighbour. We have a wood-fired sauna on the beach and our own restaurant, Låven, which serves delicious dishes using local produce whenever possible. We have just renovated the main house on the farm, Hov Gjestehus, which is rented out to overnight guests. It has 6 double rooms, a living room, a fully equipped kitchen, 3 bathrooms, and a beautiful view of Hovstranda and the sea beyond. The farm is owned and run by Frode Hov together with his administrative manager Kjersti Gjesdal and chefs Mariana Bichir and Vytautas Verkauskas, in collaboration with a team of excellent employees. Frode grew up on the farm, which has been run by his family for several generations over several hundred years.
