Multi-day Riding Tour in Lofoten
Experience the landscape, culture and history of Lofoten from the horseback. Join one of our Riding Holidays “Multi Day Tours”. We offer 5-7 days packages with accommodation at the farm, great food in our own Låven Restaurant or collaborating restaurants, and riding tours in spectacular landscape with our fantastic icelandic horses.
We have several different programs for 2025:
Classic Multi Days:
This itinerary gives you a great introduction to Lofoten from horseback. We ride on Viking roads, beaches and mountains. You need to be able to control a horse in open terrain, and be confident in all gates. We offer 1 shorter and 4 longer rides, whereof 2 longer tours on our neighbor island Vestvågøy. You stay at Hov Guesthouse where we will have our base with breakfast and dinner served in our highly reviewed restaurant Låven. Lunch will be served on tour in different locations, or outside with the horses.
Mountains of Lofoten:
This itinerary focuses on scenic and demanding rides where the rider is put to the test in different types of terrain. We do several new tours in the Lofoten mountains and nature with spectacular views and exciting trails. You must be an experienced rider and in good physical shape. You must be able to handle all gates and riding in most types of terrain. Parts of the trails are done on foot where you must lead the horse. These are especially steep parts of the trails. You stay at Hov Guesthouse where we will have our base with breakfast and dinner served in our highly reviewed restaurant Låven. This is a trip for those who wants to get close to nature, spectacular views and to test themselves with our horses.
Lofoten Islands Ride:
This itinerary focuses on a selection of different types of rides that are scenic and exciting, a mix of trail riding, gravel roads and some climbing in the mountains. It will be a combination of our classic tours and some new routes with longer stretches of gravel roads and nature paths. The rides are medio to demanding and the rider must have good experience with riding in different types of terrain and be able to master all gates. We plan 1 overnight stay in a tent camp that is set up in advance, the rest of the stay is at Hov Guesthouse where we will have our base. We will use boat transport for one of our rides to reach a more remote island in Lofoten and we’ll do some “island jumping”. Lofoten Island Ride is an extraordinary riding and nature experience in Lofoten.
Lofoten Ride and Gourmet:
This itinerary will not be avaiolable in 2025, but will return in 2026
This itinerary emphasizes a rich gastronomical experience alongside scenic horseback riding tours, ensuring an unforgettable week off in the stunning Lofoten Islands with a variety of experiences and activities. You will be learning about local food traditions and ingredients, joining a rib safari into fjords and will be doing food courses preparing delicious meals alongside trained chefs. And of course, you will experience our great horses and trails, under the supervision of our experienced guides. Your base will be at Hov Guesthouse and our restaurant Låven, but you will also get to visit, eat and stay at Kvitnes Gård, one of Norway’s most well-known concept restaurants.
Snow fun and Northern Lights tour:
This itinerary focuses on winter and northern lights experiences in Lofoten. We have deliberately created a more open program to be able to take weather conditions into account. We aim to do a lot of riding in the snow and under the northern lights, but we have to be able to adjust depending on the weather. The rides are shorter than in the summer time due to the low temperatures, however, the rides will require more customization and logistics than the rest of the year. You stay at Hov Guesthouse where we will have our base with breakfast and dinner served in our well reviewed restaurant Låven.
When you stay at Hov Gård, you have the best chances of experiencing the Northern Lights. The farm has open views to the north and the Northern Lights oval. In addition, there is little or no “light pollution” to dampen the experience.
This is a trip for those who want to experience the arctic winter, some fun ride in the snow and of course lots of northern lights.

In April, late August, September and October we might see the northern lights on the tour. In May and early August, we have the endless light of the midnight sun. Back at the farm before midnight
Day 2: Gimsøy
The riding tour starts at Hov Gård. We’ll ride on the old Viking Roads, gallop on the amazing white arctic beach, and enjoy lunch in the nature with our horses on hand. After lunch we continue to Jenndalen, and ride along the wetlands of Gimsøy
Day 3: Aalan Gård
We'll load the horses in the truck and go for a beautiful ride on our neighbor island Vestvågøy. We'll ride both to the coast and discover some amazing small islands, and to the valley of Lauvdalen. We’ll try different gaits surrounded by beautiful sceneries, and we'll even visit the famous cheese farm called Aalan Gård. There we will be served their tasty, all homemade lunch, and we can taste many of their famous goat cheeses. One is also allowed to buy local products to bring home
Day 4: Gimsøy
Today we'll explore the other side of our island back home. This is a more technical tour, where we will discover hidden beaches and a more gold terrain. We'll bring lunch in our saddlebags, to enjoy with the horses on tour. We'll try different gates also today.
Day 5: Unstad
We continue exploring our neighbor island enjoying the spectacular views on horseback, with both climbing and higher pace. We’ll have lunch at another local cheese farm – Lofoten Gaardsysteri, and try their home made cooking as well.
