Lofoten by horse
This is our most popular tour. This is a great nature experience and horseback ride that is suitable for everyone, even those with no riding...
Hov is located on the outer side of Lofoten facing north, with almost no light pollution and no mountains blocking the view. This makes Hov one of the best places to experience the Northern Lights in Lofoten.
From September to April, we offer late night horseback rides where you can experience the Northern Lights. We ride along white beaches and ridges, past ancient monuments from the Viking Age and visit a small fishing village. We recommend that you bring warm outerwear. The tour is suitable for beginners, which means that it takes place at a leisurely pace – in steps only. It can offer a near magical experience in nature, which you must be present in and appreciate.
Although our Icelandic horses are strong, we have a weight limit of 95kg for both short trips such as Lofoten til Hest, Midnattsolturen and Nordlysturen and for longer trips. On longer tours, the weight limit may depend on your riding skills and experience.
We offer helmets, gloves, thermal suits, rain jackets, rain trousers and boots on loan, but recommend everyone to dress for the weather as far as possible.
The age limit for riding a horse alone is 8 years. For younger participants, it is still possible to join the tour by booking an extra guide (+750 NOK). For children under 5, we offer a hire tour for a safe start. For experienced riders, the age limit is 14 years. For younger riders, we offer private tours at an additional cost.
It is possible to book an extra guide to walk with you throughout the tour.
At Hov, we have horses for everyone. We will choose a horse for you based on weight, age and experience. For your safety and the horse’s welfare, we ask you to provide information about experience, weight, height and age when you place your order.
