Viking tour

This tour is for intermediate and advanced riders who want an active ride. This is a great ride in an old cultural landscape and exciting geology. We start in the stables at Hov, before riding past the riding arena and past the amphitheatre that we believe to be the old Hovet and the place of sacrifice at Hov. We then ride past the famous Lofoten Links golf course and towards the middle of the island where we find Gimsøymyrene nature reserve and Storraet. Storraet is located on the old sea line in the centre of the island, which dates back some 2,000 years, where there were also Iron Age settlements. We take a break at the old farmstead with the remains of 6 houses, the dates of which span the period 195 BC to 680 AD. This was probably an important meeting place for the Vikings at one time, who may have ridden here from the surrounding farms. After the break, we ride back across the raet and try the different gaits of the Icelandic horse. We ride at the pace the group can handle. The road over Storraet is located on a ridge that provides a great 360-degree view of the nature reserve and the surrounding mountains. Back at Hov, we ride past the boathouses for the Viking ships that were once at Hov and along the beach before the tour ends in the stables.
